The Retail Alliance Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to furthering Retail Alliance’s commitment to education and community impact.

Established by the Retail Alliance Board of Directors in 2010, the Foundation was created to provide sustained backing for programs that strengthen the retail sector and the entrepreneurs who drive it. In creating the Foundation, the Board ensured the preservation of Retail Alliance’s charitable and educational mission while expanding opportunities to support entrepreneurs and foster economic growth throughout Hampton Roads.
For more than a decade, the Foundation has supported home-based, pop-up, e-commerce, and brick-and-mortar retailers, serving both new and existing business owners. Through education, outreach, and strategic partnerships, the Foundation equips entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to build sustainable businesses and contribute to strong local economies across the region.
Today, that commitment is reflected through two signature initiatives: the Retail Catalyst Program and the Certificate in Retail Operations (CROps) program. The Retail Catalyst Program provides aspiring and existing business owners with education, mentorship, technical assistance, access to capital resources, and strategic support designed to help them launch, grow, and sustain successful retail businesses. The CROps program delivers comprehensive retail business training that equips participants with the practical knowledge and skills needed to build and manage thriving retail operations.
The Foundation’s charitable giving and support have included grants, event sponsorships, underwriting economic development initiatives, seed funding for small business growth, and investments in innovative programs that strengthen the retail ecosystem. Together, these efforts reinforce the Foundation’s mission to create pathways to entrepreneurship, support business success, and contribute to vibrant communities across Hampton Roads.

PROGRAMS
The Online Certificate in Retail Operations (CROps) strives to fill the competency gap in retail operations, equipping participants with the education and skills to overcome the challenges inherent in starting or advancing their careers in the retail industry. This 14-week program is divided into seven topic areas (2 weeks in length). Classes can be taken individually or as a course of study. The Certificate in Retail Operations (CROps) is a course offered by Retail Alliance Foundation’s Center for Retail Excellence.
