First Hampton Roads Businessman Appointed as Statewide Association President

Raymond J. Mattes, III CAE Becomes President of VSAE

During its Annual Conference at Hilton Norfolk The Main, the Virginia Society of Association Executives (VSAE) installed its newly-elected 2018-2019 Board of Directors. Raymond J. Mattes, III, CAE, President & CEO, Retail Alliance, was installed as President. Mr. Mattes succeeds Scot McRoberts, MPA, IOM, Executive Director, Virginia Council of CEOs, who became the Immediate Past President.

“VSAE has been focused on serving the entire association community across the Commonwealth from Northern Virginia to Central Virginia to Coastal Virginia. Having an exemplary leader like Ray Mattes, CAE serve as the organization’s first president from outside the Richmond area is one more step towards that goal,” said Executive Director Brandon Robinson, CAE. “We are excited to have Ray’s passion and energy continue advancing our vision to be the best at making our member associations the best.”

Duront A. “D” Walton, Jr., Executive Director, Virginia Telecommunications Industry Association, will serve as President Elect. Other officers include, Phyllis Errico, JD, CAE, General Counsel, Virginia Association of Counties, who will serve as Treasurer, and, Maureen Dingus, CAE, Chief Operating Officer, Virginia Society of CPAs, who will serve as Secretary.

Newly installed directors include: Trace Carson, Senior Vice President, Organization Management Group; Amy Hewett, CAE, Virginia Health Care Association; and Katie Newland, Executive Director, Association for Corporate Growth National Capital.

Directors continuing to serve for VSAE are: Courtney Fleming, Vice President, Education and Training/Communications, Virginia Bankers Association; Shannon McCabe, CAE, Executive Director, Association of Consulting Foresters; Danny Mitchell, AAI, AAI-M, Vice President of Business Development, Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia; Jim Roman, Speaker Trainer Consultant, Association Leadership Institute; Matthew Stanley, Vice President of Government Affairs & Association Relations, Elwood Consulting, LLC; Steven Williams, Partner, Hardiman-Williams, LLC; and Tom Witt, Engineer Director, Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance.
