2017 General Assembly Session
The 2017 General Assembly Session begins on January 11, 2017. This year is a short session lasting 45 days. Each year the session switches from short to long (60 days); odd years are short and even years are long.
Your Virginia Retail Federation (VRF) team will be at the Capitol representing your interests throughout the entire session. In 2017 we expect many of the same issues that arise every year. These include: minimum wage increases, felony threshold for larceny, mandated paid sick leave, ABC issues, and much more. Please keep a look out for our weekly update emails during Session; this is where we give you an in-depth look at what takes place during Session. You may receive Legislative Alerts during this time as well. The Legislative Alerts are where we ask for your help either by making a phone call, sending an email, or coming to the Capitol to testify on an issue that impacts your business.
This a great opportunity to learn about the overall legislative process. It also allows you to brush up on how to communicate important business issues to your elected officials, giving you the ability to become more involved in the advocacy side of Virginia Retail Federation and Retail Alliance. We will be holding individual and group training sessions, depending on interest. Please reach out to me if you are interested at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (757) 455 9305.
