Custom Vinyl Products LLC, located in the Oakland Industrial Park in Newport News, was founded in 2001 when President Barry Taylor and a group of local investors purchased the window manufacturing division of Opton, Inc. Over the years, they have had to adapt to a changing and expanding market, but they believe their continued success comes from sticking to their core values of quality, service, and integrity.
“We supply custom-built vinyl windows and doors to Coastal Virginia and beyond. Every window and sliding glass door that we sell is manufactured right here In Newport News. Homeowners and building professionals can choose from a wide range of window and door systems designed for both commercial and residential applications.”
CVP has a staff of over 40 full-time employees, including a dedicated team of professional window and door installers. They pride themselves on the experience their team has in the building construction industry and the ability to serve their clients and customers. The majority of people who work for the company – from the owners to the shop workers – live right here in Hampton Roads. Of course, local ownership means being involved in the community. CVP is involved in faith communities, youth sports, non-profit organizations, and the arts in Hampton Roads, giving to charitable organizations and looking for opportunities to respond to emergency needs in the area, for example, delivering Hurricane Relief supplies to New Bern, NC last fall.
As the company grows, finding qualified people is a challenge. Employees are expected to uphold their mission to ‘always do the right thing.’ To attract quality candidates, CVP pays competitive wages with benefits. Their team members are their most valued asset and they want to make sure they are treated well, with future plans to grow the company to provide even greater opportunities and rewards for their employees.
Reflecting on their success, weathering the housing market crash of 2007 – 2008 comes to mind as an example of their effort to look out for their people. Although it was a very difficult time, they were able to continue without laying anyone off. Another success came several years ago when they made a change to their business model, diversifying their offerings to serve three different markets: the homeowner replacement retail market, builders and contractors in multi-family and residential developments, and also became the largest glass supplier to our area’s glass shops.
“Several things set us apart from our competitors: local ownership, in-house service and installation, US domestic materials, and manufacturing our own products. We always say that CVP makes our windows and doors fit your application, not the other way around. We build our windows to tight specifications to custom fit the application.”
CVP would like to be the #1 choice for homeowners who are looking for replacement windows and doors. “We believe we are the company of choice because we offer quality-built products, personalized service, and local support at a competitive price.”
