Like the majority of small businesses in Hampton Roads, Jim White experienced the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on his business, Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios. But throughout it all, he remained dedicated to helping clients through the difficult days.

With his team of certified fitness and nutrition experts, he continued to strive towards his lifelong mission, to “Inspire others to have healthier and more fulfilling lives, which can be achieved through the proper exercise and nutrition.”

This includes two locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, offering custom-tailored personal training programs for individuals and groups as well as expert and personalized dietary advice, nutrition counseling and educational programs.

They also offer Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), a therapeutic approach to preventing or treating certain chronic conditions and health issues through an individually-tailored nutrition plan. The MNT nutrition plan is developed by Registered Dietitians and is based on a person’s medical history, health condition, lifestyle and goals. What is not commonly known is that many insurance companies cover Medical Nutrition Therapy, such as Optima, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, Aetna, Medicare (with certain criteria), Cigna, and United!

It all started over 15 years ago, when Jim’s dedication and persistence in the weight room helped him go from a 135-pound “weakling” to 195-pounds of solid muscle. He not only saw changes in his body, but he began seeing changes in other areas of his life: his energy levels skyrocketed, confidence soared, and motivation level remained high. Jim soon learned that leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t only improve one’s body and health, but it can also have a positive influence on many areas of one’s life.

His ability to motivate himself inspired him to want to motivate others. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Youngstown State University in Ohio, White moved to Virginia Beach with only $400 in his pocket. He was passionate about his desire to help people get healthier and has turned that into a very successful business that is known as a place to get really, truly fit. He also reaches out to area employees through Jim White’s Workplace Wellness program.

Always one to give back, he founded Jim White’s Fitness Foundation. He’s also written a popular jumpstart fitness plan, has won many awards, holds advisory positions and is a contributor to national media outlets. And he’s just getting started.

“My future goals are to continue writing books and opening up more JWFNS locations,” White said.  “I also have been into real estate for most of my life and plan to expand our properties. My number one goal in business is continuing to empower people to exceed in fitness, health and in life.”

In 2010 he founded a non-profit organization called LIFT Fitness Foundation. The Foundation was created to provide a foundation for wellness to empower individuals in need. “We provide fitness, nutrition and job readiness programs to our homeless community, battered women, underprivileged children and other at-risk populations,” White shared. “The whole premise of this organization is to lead our community to a healthier lifestyle.”
