With 20 years of experience under her belt in the embroidery and screen-printing business, Pam Miller knows the industry inside and out.
After successfully operating a home-based business for five years, Miller and her husband Marshall wanted to expand to a storefront that was close to their home and local community where they had lived and worked for so long.
Their biggest challenge once they started looking was finding the right place that was affordable. They finally found something within a mile of their home in Suffolk and opened it in 2013. They named it, fittingly, Embroidery & Print House Specialty Gift Shop, having also added a gift shop to their store.
They offer custom embroidery, screen printing as well as specialty gifts for baby, wedding, ladies, and men. They also sell locally made jewelry, and a section of Suffolk, Virginia items. They also have specialty gifts for all special occasion and holiday gift needs, along with gift wrapping.
Having been in the Suffolk community for over 40 years, they have very loyal local customers, both small and large businesses. They are also very active as partners with the local schools and Ruritans.
“Being involved with community activities and functions are great networking opportunities and are truly rewarding,” Pam Miller commented.
“We also connect with the community through Facebook and Instagram along with some local newspaper ads.”
When asked what advice they would give to fellow entrepreneurs, they said, “Owning your own business is a wonderful venture but comes with hard work and long hours. Marketing and visiting others and promoting is an ongoing process and you can’t stop. A successful business takes years of commitment. It doesn’t happen overnight.”
Heed their advice! The Millers have been successfully operating for over five years and know a thing or two about hard work and long hours.
