Retail Alliance

Retail Alliance is committed to strengthening the retail community by championing for our members’ success, educating them and their peers, and building lasting relationships far beyond membership.

The Retail Alliance is a non-profit trade association serving the interests of local retailers in Hampton Roads since 1903. We promote and support the healthy growth of retail businesses and trade through our signature programs: STRIVE educational workshops, Retail Alliance Foundation, Virginia Retail Federation legislative lobbying and industry advocacy, LOVEVA Buy Local rewards program, plus many other discounts and member benefits.

We promise to provide our retail and business partners with dependable, responsive, and uncompromising products and service. We build alliances within the retail community, with vendors, industry and community leaders, and allied businesses for the success of our retail members.

Retailer of the Year Awards

Since 2008, Retail Alliance has held the Retailer of the Year (ROTY) awards for Hampton Roads’ retailers. The ROTY awards gala is our signature event to recognize excellence in retail while honoring Retail Alliance members who demonstrate the very best in product quality, customer service, and community involvement.

This year we have changed things up! We are providing a full buffet dinner, music, and over 25 awards handed out to Retail Alliance members on the night (with our members doing the voting!). This is in addition to awarding Southside and Peninsula Retail Partners of the Year and the Overall Retailer of the Year. We will also celebrate the Lifetime Achievement Award winner by honoring their many years in business and their contributions to the Hampton Roads community

29 awards are presented at an awards ceremony, to be held September 24, 2020. Winners are announced at the event, apart from Lifetime Achievement Award winner, who will be announced prior.

How Are Awards Judged

Each and every Retail Alliance member will be the judges for the ROTY winners this year. Voting will be done via a link emailed individually to every Retail Alliance member on a date TBD.  Each member will only be able to vote for their top 3 in each each award category. Voting is limited to one time per member.

Members are asked to vote for who they believe best fits the spirit of a ROTY winner based on their own knowledge and experience. If they have had no exposure to any of the members listed in a category, they are able to skip it.

Voters should refer to the purpose of ROTY when making their decisions.

“The ROTY awards recognize excellence in retailing while honoring merchants across retail and restaurant categories who demonstrate the very best in product quality, customer service & experience, and community involvement.”

The cut-off for voting is TBD.

The member in each category that receives the highest score will be presented the award for that category at the ROTY event on September 24 at the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton.

This event could not be held without the generosity of sponsors. Sponsorship contributions contribute to the cost of the event, from the venue to the audio/visual support, to the decorations and awards.

Please take a minute to review the sponsorship opportunities. With your help we can recognize the efforts of our fellow retailers and make this event an evening to remember!

If you are interested in sponsoring ROTY 2020, please contact Kylie Ross Sibert at communications@retailalliance.com.

Kaycee McCoy, CEO & Creative Director of Create/Captivate Digital Marketing, is hosting a unique STRIVE Workshop with the goal of showing you how to turn your business into a fan favorite business.

Kaycee will do a social media and communications audit of several Retail Alliance members who are seen as fan-favorite fixtures of Hampton Roads. These members have a large and dedicated following who love to interact with and support them. During COVID-19 they have shown immense leadership and crystal clear communication with their audience.

Kaycee will show you exactly what they are doing and why it is working to help them grow and retain their potential customer base.

You will walk away from this STRIVE Workshop with a clearer understanding of how to communicate with your customers in a way that resonates with them and drives them to support your business like never before.

Retail Alliance STRIVE Workshops provide local brick & mortar retailers a monthly live-streamed workshop that focuses on topics of interest in today’s retail environment. For a retailer to succeed they must become a destination for consumers while also wearing many hats and holding a multitude of responsibilities as a business owner.
