In response to The Virginian-Pilot’s praise of Farm Fresh in their editorial pages, we wrote a response with thanks given to two Farm Fresh personnel in particular, Michelle Ellis-Young and Randall Benjamin. Retail Alliance, the Hampton Roads regional retail trade association, is grateful for the strong accolades given to Farm Fresh on your editorial page. Our organization has greatly benefited from the tireless community contributions Farm Fresh management and employees have given to their peer members in Retail Alliance as well as to the local business community and local law enforcement.
In particular, we would like to recognize Michelle Ellis-Young, Manager – Customer Service, Farm Fresh Food and Pharmacy; and Randall Benjamin, CPP, Director of Human Resources and Loss Prevention, Farm Fresh/Supervalu. For nearly two years, Michelle has served on the Buy Local steering committee for LOVEVA campaign. She has contributed her expertise on human resource best practices with the Retail Alliance community through several webinars. In addition, she has championed support for other local businesses and events. Her passion for Farm Fresh, the retail community and the wider Hampton Roads community was evident in her daily work.
Randy has spent countless hours serving as chair of our Loss Prevention Task Force, a committee of retailers and law enforcement representatives that come together monthly to share information about retail security issues including topics like counterfeiting, disaster preparedness, gang awareness, vendor theft and store layout. He has travelled repeatedly to the Virginia General Assembly to share his expertise with lawmakers on issues like Virginia’s felony threshold and merging of criminal and civil statutes for retail security. He also currently serves as chair of the Retail Alliance legislative committee which establishes legislative policy for our work on behalf of our members at the Virginia General Assembly.
Farm Fresh management has stood behind Michelle and Randy 100 percent as they have pursued these volunteer contributions. We are most appreciative of their professionalism, commitment and exceptional communication skills. And we thank Farm Fresh and its parent SuperValu for serving as an outstanding retail business role model for the grocery industry throughout Hampton Roads.
